A beauty that attracts the flies.

They exist numerous species of succulent plants that have spectacular flowerings and of a very strange and unusual beauty. We could mention the genus Caralluma, Stapelia, Stapelianthus, Huernia, Hoodia and Duvalia, like the most representative. Its origin, with some exceptions, is from the African Continent.

But, if we approached innocently to admire the flower, we can appreciate a scent unpleasant and, often, little nauseous. In fact, it is one of the resource for the survival of these peculiar plants that have so specialized flowers.

In effect, many insects, mainly the flies, are attracted by the forms, the colors and by the penetrating scent of the flower. This way, the flies go to the flower to put their eggs thinking that it is organic matter in decomposition and they are a perfect instrument for the pollination of the flowers.

As in all fight by the survival in the Nature there are winners and losers, in this case the flies, since the larvae of their eggs will not have any possibility of being developed and will die without organic matter to be able to feed themselves and to prosper.
