LOBIVIA JAJOIANA

The Lobivia genus comes from a game of letters with Bolivia, country in which one of these plants was catalogued for the first time.  The Lobivia jajoiana in particular is natural of Argentina and has an aspect that happens unnoticed completely in a cactus collection.  More or less globular body and we could say that a little vulgar and plain shape.

¿Plain, vulgar? ...let's see its blooming

Synonymous:  Echinopsis marsoneri v. jajoiana.

Origin:  Argentinean north.

Size:  Up to 14 cm of diameter, flattened, with epidermis of green color.

Flowers:  Up to 7 cm of diameter. Their colors are very variable, going from the yellow to the red one, happening through all the imaginable tones of violet.  All of them have in common that the hymen, or bottom of the flower, is always of a very dark color, from the dwelled one to the black.

Growth:  Slow.

Culture:  Ph 5. Is very rustic and it does not present problems.  Generous irrigations in summer time.  It resists the cold.

Phytosanitary cares:  Preventive treatments.

It is a good representative of the Lobivia genus.  The geometric architecture of the flower and its color confer the plant with a singular and characteristic beauty. Many varieties and forms exist that come from the speciess type with spectacular flowerings.
