Plantations of this type of cactus can practically be found in all the tropical zones of the planet like in this photo of South Vietnam. In order to obtain fruits it is necessary to make a genetic selection since some genotypes are self sterile.

By those reasons the harvesting for fruits is low in relation to the abundant number of flowers that produces throughout the summer and principles of the autumn.

In Mexico and central America they name them “pitahaya”, by Asia the “fruit of the dragoon”, the Anglo-Saxons the “strawberry pear”. There exist of several types, being those of most current white pulp or red pulp.
