Astrophytum myriostigma: |
Origin: Central & North of Mexico.
Plant Description: About 20 cm of diameter and up to 60 cm, or more height, when very adult. 3 - 8 speckled ribs of small white grudges. Many varieties and forms, some without grudges and with a green uniform color.
Flowers: Up to 6 cm wide, generally within the yellow tones although they can arrive at shades pink/orange. They are born from the new areolas during the period of growth. The Astrophytum hybrids very easily what gives rise to multitude of forms and variants by genetic dispersion. Growth: Slow.
Culture: Ph 6,5. It resists well the alkalinity. The frosts hurt his epidermis although its general resistance to the cold is good, mainly in dryness. It needs a good drainage that avoids water retentions. Controlled irrigation when there is not in activity. Phytosanitary Cares: Preventive treatments with fungicides to prevent neck rotting. In order to protect itself of the excesses of humidity, it tends to quickly suberize his base, that becomes cork-like and with more or less dark colorations. In adult plants the suberization is a process that tends to turn the stem a more or less ligneous in function of environmental factors. Photos: By Dr. Star, Gargamel, Pandora & Risco |
